SUMMATIVE PERFORMANCE TASK

How can I create an annotated bibliography for a paper or project?

OUTLINE

*For more detailed instructions, see the full lesson plan.

For this summative performance task, the students will start building a bibliography for a project or paper.

The students should find 10 credible sources and create an annotated bibliography for them. They should fill out a credibility template for each source and turn these in with the final product. Be sure to specify which style of citation you want your students to use (e.g. MLA, APA, Chicago Manual of Style, etc.).

If your students are completing the Solution Plan Project, they should collect sources related to water quality, civic action, and/or their local community. If they are not, they can create a bibliography for a different paper/project, either for this class or for another class.

ASSESSMENT

Grade the students’ annotated bibliographies based on the following criteria:

  • Did the student format their citations correctly?
  • Did the student clearly and accurately summarize the sources?
  • Did the student comment on how useful and reliable the sources are (in general)?
  • Did the student write about how useful they think the sources would be to their project, and why?
