TAKING INFORMED ACTION

How do we write an effective paragraph using CREW?

OUTLINE

*For more detailed instructions, see the full lesson plan.

In this activity, the students will create posters or infographics to give an audience a preview of their projects. They should focus on giving their audience a “sneak peek” of what their projects may eventually uncover.

The students’ posters/infographics should feature all of the parts of the CREW paragraph they wrote for their summative performance task, as well as some images to illustrate their claims. However, the students can display the sentences however they like (not necessarily in a single block of text,  so long as the words still make sense.

The students could put their posters up at school. They could also incorporate them into a school event, like parent-teacher conferences or an open house. Furthermore, they could send their posters to a relevant organization in the local community to let them know about what the students are working on.

ASSESSMENT

Grade the students’ posters/infographics based on the following criteria:

  • Does the student’s poster display considerable time and effort?
  • Did the student present their paragraph in a clear and creative way?
  • Did the student use appropriate and eye-catching images to enhance their paragraph?
