What is geoscience, and how can it help us explore local water quality issues?

Having spent some time exploring the four branches of geoscience, the students will write an essay based on the following prompt:

This year, we will work together to test the quality of a local body of water, and then do something to help improve or protect it. How do you think geoscience can help us do that? Consider the four branches of geoscience and what they have to do with water. 

ASSESSMENT

Grade the students’ essays based on the following criteria: 

  • Did the student demonstrate the ability to distinguish between the four branches of geoscience?
  • Did the student provide specific examples of applied geoscience related to water quality?
